I do declare….! The Sixty-Ninth Annual Plantation Tour of plantations and town houses in and near Georgetown, will be held March 18 & 19, 2016, just north of historic Charleston, South Carolina.
Sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women of Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church, the tours attract people from all over South Carolina and beyond. Many out-of-towners enjoy overnight weekend accommodations at DeBordieu, the ocean front community located right in between Georgetown and Pawleys Island. If you need help with that, give me a call at 843-455-4523, or email me at TroiKaz@DeBordieu.com and I’ll hook you up with our on-site rental department.
The majority of the plantations and town houses are privately owned and graciously shared with the Diocesan Church Women of Prince George Winyah Parish once per year. A different group of homes is on tour each day.
As part of the tour of pre-Revolutionary and antebellum churches, town houses and plantations, visitors are invited to the Winyah Indigo Society Hall for tea each afternoon.
Home baked goods, original framed art from local artists, many of them members of the church, books from the Georgetown Historical Society, and our award winning cookbook, Plantation Tours and Tastes, will be available for sale in the Parish Hall.
In addition, the annual Oyster Roast & Pig Pickin’ hosted by the Prince George will take place on Friday, March 18th 6:00 pm at The Boat Shed, 211 Church Street, Georgetown. $30 per ticket. Tickets may be purchased with your Tour tickets or through the church office.
Houses will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Please allow a full day for each day’s tour. Histories and maps showing the routes for the day are provided with tickets. Hosts will be happy to answer any questions you may have concerning the houses that are open. Visitors provide their own transportation. Only cars and vans are allowed on the tours because of the many low-hanging oak limbs and soft roadbeds. NO BUSES, please.
